Problems with Shutdown in Win95...
Also see the "Windows 95 Hangs-Problems" page
This is a complicated process to troubleshoot and you should try going through the Microsoft KB article indicated below.
- Very often this happens when there is an IRQ conflict. Especially for computers that have 2 Com ports and an internal modem.
There is not much hope here other than disabling one of the internal com ports. This can be done usually through a selection in the BIOS. On older computers the motherboard would have a dip switch that has to be changed.
Either way check with the manual to see what it says about disabling the conflicting com port
In Windows 95, go to the Control Panel, System, Device Manager, Properties, and look at the usage of com ports. Sometimes it will be obvious that the above is taking place when you see the Yellow exclamation point in front of one of the com ports.
This is one of the trickiest problems to resolve so try to get some help. Contact this site's webmaster by email if you need specific instructions.
