Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)

The premier certification provided by Microsoft to candidates who pass a set of six (6) tests. The tests are given independently by Sylvan-Prometrics (used to be Drake) for a fee of $100 per test. All tests are administered on a computer at the testing center and are timed. The questions are usually multiple choice. A test can be taken over as many times as needed, but keep your wallet handy, you pay for the retakes just like the original..

One changing taking place is a plan by Microsoft to basically nullify all of the NT 4.0 MCSE certifications and have each certified person re-certify for Windows 2000 most likely by the end of 2001. One interesting issue arising is this. Since there will be no certified NT 4.0 MCSEs, will no one be certified to work on existing NT 4.0 networks? In late 2001, Microsoft decided to postpone the de-certification of NT4 MCSE for an unknown time frame

The tests are very hard so lots of studying is needed.

For more information you can go to the Microsoft web site.

The tests can also be found in the TechNet CD-ROMs if you are lucky enough to have access to them (they are pricey at about $400 per year for a monthly subscription). MCSE's get a free TechNet subscription for a year.

There are numerous companies that offer Books, Reading Material as well as sample practice questions. Information can also be sound on various sites on the internet, some of which have practice questions.
