Solutions:

  1. One user has reported it was caused by a bad system FAN causing overheating
  2. Another user has reported that this error message was caused by the Backdoor.NTHack virus which installed winproxy 3.0 (mmtask.exe) and tried to steal passwords
  3. 0028:C02A27A8 VXD VWIN32(05) +000012D due to conflicts with Pest Patrol
  4. Another user has reported that it was caused by Norton AntiVirus 2001 automatic update running at startup (ntdetect in scheduled tasks). He disabled the task in safe mode, and it booted fine without the error. After manually running Live Update, he re-enabled the task and the Computer worked fine
  5. Another user has reported issues with the Borland Delphi software due to possible problems with the way vwin32 implements several dos-compatible system calls for device I/O ( in the shared function libraries).
  6. It might be caused by the DMIStart utility
Use the MSCONFIG utility, go to the startup tab, and see if the DMStart utility is there, if it is, uncheck it, close Msconfig and reboot.
