Download the Latest Drivers

Usually, Windows 95 or Windows NT can use their own drivers. If Windows 95/NT cannot use their drivers or you want to use the CD-ROM in DOS under Windows 95, follow the instructions below:

The drivers you can download below are DOS and/or Windows 3.1x drivers.

Download the Driver -

The driver applies to ALL of the CD-ROM Drives listed on the "Atlas CD-ROM Drive Products"  page.

1) Create a blank folder on your C drive.

2) Click on a link below, a "Save As" window will appear.

3) Download the file to the blank folder you created on your C drive.

Ver 2.32 DOS mode Driver. ( 567KB ) - ...click here to download the driver.

When the file has finished downloading open explorer and Navigate to the folder where you saved the cdsetup.exe file.

Double click the file "cdsetup". This will extract all the needed files to the same folder.

You can also extract the files from a DOS prompt by going to the folder where the cdsetup.exe file resides, and typing cdsetup <Enter> .

The two important files you will use for installing the driver are the "Setup.exe" and the "install.exe".

Once the files are extracted to a folder follow the directions below to install the driver.

Install the drivers

Windows 95 Installation

After installing the CD-ROM Drive, when the computer is turned on it will recognize the CD-ROM drive and install the proper driver in the Windows 95 environment.

If for some reason this does not work you will have to install the DOS mode drivers as detailed below.

If you need to also access the CD-ROM drive from the DOS environment (e.g., to run DOS games, etc.), perform the procedure "Installing Windows 3.1/ DOS Drivers" as described below.

Installing Windows 3.1/DOS Drivers

You can install the drivers using one of two methods

A) You can use the setup.exe to install your driver from within windows as follows.

  1. Exit Windows to DOS or reboot the computer to a DOS prompt.
  2. If you have previously installed a CD-ROM, un-install it now as follows.
    1. Type EDIT CONFIG.SYS [Enter]
    2. Type REM in front of the line that is similar to
      DEVICE=C:\UTILS\CDROM\MVRK12X.SYS /D:MSCD000 /T:F /V
      It should like this: REM DEVICE=C:\UTILS\CDROM\MVRK12X.SYS /D:MSCD000 /T:F /V
This is your old CD-ROM driver.
    3. Save the file and exit EDIT ( Key [Alt]FS[Alt]FX).
    4. Type EDIT AUTOEXEC.BAT [Enter]
    5. Type REM in front of the line that is similar to:
      C:\DOS\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD000 /V /E /M:12
      or
      C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD000 /V /E /M:12
      This is your old MSCDEX.
    6. Save the file and exit EDIT ( Key [Alt]FS[Alt]FX).
    7. Type install [Enter] to enter the installation program.
    8. Click on Proceed
    9. Click on Manual Install
    10. Scroll down the list until your CD-ROM model is highlighted.
    11. Click on Install
    12. Reboot the computer.

B) You can use the install.exe file to install your driver from DOS as follows.

If you are in windows, click Start , choose the Shut Down menu, select Restart the Computer in the MS-DOS Mode

  1. at the DOS prompt, enter the drive designator for floppy drive A (or B).
  2. Type A:\INSTALL (or B:\INSTALL) and press [Enter].
  3. A Please Read window will inform you if the drive you bought requires using the Manual installation method. (Refer to the back of the Read Me First card or the see the label on the CD-ROM for the model number.)
Note: If you are not required to use the Manual Install, you should choose the Default Install when the next window appears.
  4. If you are using the Default Install make sure it is highlighted and press [Enter]. The Default Install will install a generic driver which works well with most CD-ROM drives.
If you are using the Manual Install, use the tab key to highlight Manual Install and press [Enter]. Use the up/down arrow keys to select the CD-ROM drive type. (You may have to scroll down the screen to find the drive.)
  5. A line similar to the following will be added to your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files: (This example if for the default driver.)

LH C:\CDROM\MSCDEX.EXE /D:NCI000 (At top of your AUTOEXEC.BAT)
    DEVICEHIGH=C:\CDROM\CD1200.SYS /D:NCI000 (At bottom of CONFIG.SYS)

Windows NT Installations

When the computer is turned on it will recognize the CD-ROM drive and install the proper driver in the Windows NT environment.

If you are installing Windows NT and after the creation of three diskettes NT cannot find the CD-ROM drive, follow the below steps .

  1. Reboot the computer with a bootable disk (Win95 or DOS) that has the CD-ROM DOS drivers installed on it.
  2. Insert your Windows NT CD and at the DOS prompt and type D: (D: represents your CD-ROM Drive letter)
  3. Type CD I386 [Enter]
  4. Start Windows NT by typing WINNT /B
