Toray SCSI DOS Drivers | Toray Main | »

Note: If you are using Windows95, read the information in that section first because that operating system deals with the Phasewriter DUAL very differently than DOS and Windows 3.x.

Requirements

Drivers Needed

Setup Procedure

First, install the ASPI Manager driver for your SCSI interface/host adapter. This may involve running an installation routine with the software that came with the SCSI adapter. Otherwise, you may need to manually copy the driver onto your hard disk and add a line to your config.sys file. For example, the PEL-1600 needs the line

DEVICE=C:\PEL\PEL1600.SYS

Second, install the PD Pack for Windows drivers. Start Windows and run the setup.exe program from the PD Pack diskette. This will install the DOS drivers and the PD utilities FormatterOne Pro and CD Mounter Plus.

If your computer does not have Windows, you will need to manually install the drivers. Copy the drivers ( saiaspi.sys and cdaspi.sys) from the \drivers directory on the PD Pack diskette into a directory on your hard disk (e.g. c:\pdpack\ ). Then add the following lines to your config.sys :

DEVICE=C:\PDPACK\SAIASPI.SYS /R:1
DEVICE=C:\PDPACK\CDASPI.SYS /D:CDMP001

Note: The PD Pack drivers must be inserted after the ASPI driver, so that the ASPI driver is loaded first. Otherwise they will not be able to detect the Phasewriter and hence fail to load

Using the Phasewriter

When the drive is installed and the drivers are working, two new drive letters will be added: the first will be for accessing PD media, the second for accessing CD-ROM and other CD media. If you have one hard disk with a single partition, PD media can be accessed through drive D: and CD media through the E: drive; if you get the message that the drive is empty or inaccessible, make sure that you are using the drive letter for the type of media in the drive

About the PD Pack drivers

When the computer starts, the saiaspi.sys driver checks the PD drive for media and adds a new drive letter to access PD media. If there is media in the drive with more than one partition on it, a drive letter will be added for each partition on the media; for example, if a PD has 3 partitions on it, drive letters D: E: and F: will be added. Each successive partition is accessed through the appropriate letter (partition 1 is D: , partition 2 is E: , etc.) To change the default number of drive letters, change the /R: switch after saiaspi.sys to whatever number of drive letters you wish to reserve

Using PD Media

Using PD media is just like accessing your hard disk or a floppy disk. You can copy, edit, delete, rename, and perform any file operation just as you would on your hard drive. When PD media is in the drive, just change the current drive letter to that of your Phasewriter drive; you can create a directory tree to store your files and quickly access them from any application. No special software is required to store or access your files

Formatting & Partitioning PD Media

PD Media can be purchased either unformatted or formatted for DOS (or Macintosh). The formatted media is ready to be used right out of the package. The formatted media still needs to be formatted, though.

To format the PD media, use the FormatterOne Pro software that comes with PD Pack. When PD Pack was installed, a new program group was created containing FormatterOne Pro and CD Mounter Plus programs. See the FormatterOne instructions for more information.

If you computer does not contain Windows, you must use the SCSI software that came with your SCSI adapter (e.g. EZ-SCSI software from Adaptec). These utility programs should partition and format the media. Before formatting, it is recommended that the partitions are created, either a single partition, or multiple partitions, depending on how you wish to use the media
