Associated Control Service Element (ACSE)
The ACSE is one of the 3 Application Service Elements (ASE) which reside in the Application layer of the OSI protocol and act as an interface to the lower layer protocols.
The 3 ASEs
- ACSE - Associated Control Service is used by applicationa to create a title for identification.
- ROSE - Remote Operations Service Element provides a means for remote operations by enabling either of the end systems to operate as a performer. This is similar to Remote Procedure Calls (RPCs).
- RTSE - Reliable Transfer Service Element, is an interface between the Application and the Session layers. The status of a transfer is reported by RTSE.
DNA Phase V support for ACSE and ROSE protocols is provided at the Application Layer.
Note: FTAM uses ASCE application references for all operations, instead of ROSE.
FTAM does not utilize the remote operation services provided by ROSE. Rather, FTAM establishes an association between systems using ASCE. All file operations, such as opening, access, movement, and closing, are performed with reference to this application association.
