General Information - 

The following list describes the AMD Microprocessor family.

AMD Processors -

• Duron -

• AMD Athlon ( K7 ) - The Athlon name is used to describe the AMD-K7 processor. Chip Markings : "AMD K7xxx" stands for .25, while "AMD-A0xxx" (i.e. Thunderbird) stands for .18 architecture.

  The VIA KX133 chipset only supports Slot A Athlon with .25 architecture ( Athlon Classic), not .18 so motherboards such as the Abit KA7 or KA7-100 cannot use the thunderbird processor.

   

  • Classic ( K7xxx) - Slot A Athlon with .25 architecture, uses Slot A Socket.
  • Thunderbird ( A0xxx ) - Code name for a differentiated version of the AMD Athlon processor to be released in 2000. It will incorporate on-chip L2 cache using  .18 architecture. It uses the Socket A PGA462 socket.
  • Spitfire - Code name for a differentiated version of the AMD Athlon processor to be released in 2000. Like the Thunderbird but for value computers. 
  • Mustang - Code name for a differentiated version of the AMD Athlon processor to be released in 2000.

The Athlon CPU is used in motherboard form factors of ATX and uATX

  Sixth-generation CPU, RISC86 superscalar micro-architecture, 320KB total internal cache, Internal 64KB Level 1 cache (32KB instruction cache and 32KB write-back dual-ported data cache) ...
• AMD-K6  MMX enhanced processor - K6 updates @ AMD Link
  A sixth generation CPU comes in speeds of 166MHz, 200MHz and 233MHz, 266MHz. It has a 64KB (32K data/32K instruction) level 1 cache. It supports dual pipelines, branch prediction and out-of-order execution. It runs on 3.2 volts, uses 0.35µm technology, 8.8 million transistors, Socket 7 technology.

• AMD-K6 2 with 3DNow! - Introduced MAY 28, 1998, supports the 100-MHz bus specification of the Super7 platform, available in 266/300/333MHz,, 350-MHz ,  400-MHz , enhances 3D graphics, multimedia, and other floating point-intensive PC application
