DataFlash - Also Known as ATA Memory.
DataFlash is a Flash Memory device.
DataFlash Cards are full-sized Type I, Type II or Type III PC Cards which store data. They operate on either 3.3 volts or 5 volts ( 2.7v and 1.8v is also used). Depending on the model, they might be able to operate with either voltage.
A DataFlash Card made by Kingston is shown below.
They mostly follow the specifications for "PC Card Release 2.1" and "ATA Release 1.02" .
Information stored on these cards is retained after power is removed. DataFlash cards can be manufactured to operate as serial or parallel devices. It can have a page size of 264 bytes (for densities of 8MB or smaller).
Flash Memory data can move either serially or in blocks (parallel). Parallel data transfers are done with the aid of FFS (Flash File System) and FTL (Flash Translation Layer) software. DataFlash ATA memory cards perform these transfers in hardware and do not need FFS or FTL software gaining a speed advantage over the other flash cards.
DataFlash ATA cards behave and present themselves to the operating system as hard drives.
DataFlash Cards can be found in the "DataFlash ATA Memory Cards" page.
