General Information
A new ( 1997 ) technology similar to DVD.
The disk looks like a DVD disk but cannot be read on non-Divx drives.
Divx was supported by "Digital Video Express, L.P." and sold at "Circuit City Stores, Inc" stores. Some DVD players of the 1998 era also had the ability to switch the play mode and play Divx disks.
The consumer buys (more like rent it for limited time viewing) the disk for a few dollars and has several days after it is first played to watch the movies. After the designated time the disk stops playing. That was the original description of how this technology was to be used. As it comes out we will post a follow up explaining it better. There might be some way to reactivate it if you call the store where the purchase was made.
And if that's not enough, the machine might need access to the phone to handle the transaction
Divx died out sometime in 1998.
