General Information
Hypertext Transport Protocol (HTTP) is a client/server based, distributed, collaborative protocol in use since 1990 and is the driving force behind the World Wide Web (WWW).
The protocol operates at the Applications layer of the OSI protocol.
The standard connection to the server is port 80. The connection is in the form of a virtual circuit implemented at the transport layer.
The communication process
- Connection between server and client is established (at port 80)
- The client sends a request message to the server
- The server send a response including the requested data
- The server closes the connection
