Memory Addresses | Tech Info Home Page | Hardware Assignments |

Upper memory assignments.

Device   Address (Hex)

Video Memory   A000 - AFFF
Video Memory (Text)   B800 - B7FF

Video BIOS (VGA)   C000 - C7FF

Hard Drive Controller   C800 - CFFF

System BIOS memory   F000 - FFFF

On many computers running DOS and windows 3.x, these memory addresses are excluded in the config.sys file by using the command similar to "device = c:\dos\emm386.exe x=C000 - C7FF". This exclusion is sometimes needed for proper operation of the computer.

The program MEMAKER which comes with DOS 6.x will make these adjustments for you automatically.
