General Information

POP ( Post Office Protocol )

An internet mail protocol which moves the messages from the server to the local hard drive as soon as the user connects to the mail server, unlike the IMAP protocol that leaves the mail messages on the server.

The POP Domain name is typically entered in the configuration of a mail client applications such as Netscape Mail and Microsoft Outlook Mail.

The entry varies according to how the Internet Provider has configured their server. The most common entries are mail.yourhost.com and pop3.yourhost.com (where the term 'yourhost.com' is the name of your own host provider for example the techadvice mail server would be configured as mail.techadvice.com ).
