General Information

Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) -

PPTP is a networking protocol which is uses tunneling techniques to connect Virtual Private Networks to remote users through dial-up connections. A similar protocol, IPSec is used for Lan-to-Lan connectivity of protected LANs. On Microsoft products, Lan-to-Lan tunneling connectivity is provided by Routing Remote Access Server (RRAS).

PPTP is an extension of the PPP protocol. It is prone to "Man-in-the-middle (MITM)" hacker attacks.

It was developed by Microsoft and US Robotics.
