Packet Writing -
This is a method in which a CD disk is pre-formatted and using the appropriate software use the CD disk as if it was a regular hard drive.
Packet Writing is defined in the OSTA (the Optical Storage Technology Association) Universal Disc Format ( UDF ) standard.
There are two types of packets can be written: fixed-length and variable-length.
Fixed-length packets are more suitable for CD-RW using 32K long packets.. The high overhead of this format only leaves about 500MB usable space.
Variable-length packets use less space and are best suited for CD-R recordings.
