General Information -
The PS/2 Connector is used by IBM PC compatible computers to connect Mice and Keyboards to the Computers.
Keyboards -
- Have a PS/2 or the older style AT connector. AT to PS/2 or PS/2 to AT Adapters are available
- Have a PS/2 or a newer USB connector. PS/2 Adapters are available
Mice -
- Have a PS/2 connector or a Serial Port connector.
The connector is typically located on the back of a computer. It is used for connecting both Mice and Keyboards.
Mice come with either a Serial DB-9 connector or a PS/2 style connector. Most new computers come with the PS/2 style connector, but older computers might not have a PS/2 connector but instead use the Serial DB-9 connector. Two types of Adapters are available to allow you to connect between theses dissimilar connectors.
- DB9 Female to PS/2 Female - Converts the Serial DB-9 Male Connector on the back of the computer to a PS/2 Female so a Mouse having a PS/2 connector can be used.
- PS/2 Female to AT style keyboard connector - Allows a Keyboard having a PS/2 plug to connect to computers that have the Older AT Style 5-pin connector.
- DB9 Male to PS/2 Male - Allows a mouse that has a DB-9 Serial plug to connect to the PS/2 connector on the computer.
