Remote Job Entry (RJE)

RJE is a protocol developed by IBM to perform high-speed batch file transfers and printing between Terminals and Mainframe computer systems.

The term RJE refers to the process of submitting a job from a terminal or I/O device through a communications channel and receiving the output from the connected mainframe computer.

To find connectivity software and links to the companies that make them go to the following pages...

The most common RJE terminal emulation is the 3770 RJE emulation. This can be implemented by a hardware card or by a program such at the "Serengeti Systems Inc" '3770Link' program which can be found in the link above.

In the Microsoft environments, a typical RJE connection would be the "3770Link" program, communicating with a PC running the Microsoft "SNA Server" software which will be configured to communicate with a mainframe also configured with the proper gateway connections.

Older AS400 systems would have a terminal or PC with a special RJE card connected to a controller which communicates with the mainframe. Proprietary software would provide the 3770 terminal emulation functions.
