General Information -
SuperDisk is Imation's trademark name for its LS-120 (Laser Servo 120) technology drives. The drives typically have an IDE interface and are capable of reading and writing standard 3.5" floppy diskettes of 1.44MB or 720K capacities, and a special cartridge which holds 120MB of information.
The LS-120 has now been replaced by the LS-240 drive which holds 240MB of information.
Drives are available in the following formats.
- Internal
- External Parallel Port
- External SCSI
- External USB

The Media (Diskettes) are the same size as the 1.44MB floppy disks
SuperDisk Diskettes with Secured Encryption Technology are also available.
The SuperDisk™ drives ( an Imation trademark) are also known as LS-120 Drives.
The internal models are made to fit into a standard floppy drive configuration.

- Avg. Seek Time : SuperDisk 70 msec / Floppy Drive 84 msec
- Track Density : SuperDisk 2490 tpi / Floppy Drive 135 tpi
- Number of Tracks : SuperDisk 1736 x 2 sides / Floppy Drive 80 x 2 sides
- Rotational Speed : SuperDisk 720 RPM / Floppy Drive 300 RPM

How To... -
Mac OS 8.1 PC Exchange version 2.2 or earlier does not format SuperDisk diskettes correctly. Turn off PC Exchange and reformat the diskette as follows:
- On the Apple icon in the Finder, click Control Panels>PC Exchange.
- Click the Off button.
- Insert the diskette into a drive where its format will not be recognized.
- Reformat the diskette into Mac format.
Mac OS 8.5
File Exchange does format SuperDisk diskettes correctly. You may not be able to restore a PC-formatted SuperDisk™ diskette to a Mac format or interchangeable PC format. Avoid using the DOS format option.
To format a floppy diskette in Macs
1) put disk in
2) (during this phase only) turn off File Sharing from Control Panels
3) In the Finder, Special Menu, Choose Erase Disk,
4) Select the formatting option from the menu (MAC)
5) click erase
Windows 95 and 98 do not automatically support the Quick Format option.
Right-click on your Drive icon and select the Format option to perform a full format. Subsequent quick formats will work fine.
