Types of Terminal Emulation
- 3270 - 3270
products
Terminal Emulation 3270. It is used to connect terminals to mainframes. Data is encoded
using EBCDIC.
- TN3270 (Telnet 3270 )-
A terminal Emulation protocol. Data is encoded using ASCII and blocks groups of characters
for transmission. Regular Telnet sends each character in its own data packet. A client
sends to TCP port 23.
Does not support LU 1 or LU3 print sessions.
- TN3270E -
Defined in RFC 1647. Like TN3270 with additional functionality. Does support LU 1 or LU3
print sessions.

used to connect terminals to mainframes for batch job processing
- 5250 -
used to connect to AS/400 systems.
- TN5250 (Telnet 250 ) -
A client sends to TCP port 23.
- TN3287 - ( IBM 3287 printer sessions)
