General Information -
Video Capture is the process of saving a stream of video and audio to a hard drive file.
The two most common formats for saving these files are
- Apple's QuickTime for Windows format
- Microsoft's AVI format
These programs also compress the data as it is saved at a compression ratio ranging from 1:1 to 6:1 or more. Typical compression ration is about 3 to 1.
The capture window is typically NOT a full screen but most commonly one of the following pixel sizes
- 160x120
- 320x240
- 640x480
To convert AVI files to MPEG formats you can use an MPEG card such as the Sigma ReelMagic or Video Editing Software packages like the one from Xing Technology or U-Lead.
