The computer name is used to individually identify a single computer. This name is chosen by the user during the windows installation process.

How to... -
1) Close all programs
2) On the desktop, right click the "Network Neighborhood" icon
3) Select Properties from the pop-up window. The "Network" window will appear
4) Click the "Identification" tab on the top of the window.
5) Click inside the "Computer name:" text area with your mouse
6) enter a new name
7) Click the OK button
The computer will display a "building driver information database window" followed by another window showing you that files are being copied.
You might receive messages asking you if you want to overwrite certain files that are either older or newer than then ones currently on the hard drive. Microsoft recommends keeping the existing file, so if you see those message press the "Yes" button.
Finally the computer will ask you if you want to restart. Click the Yes button to restart your computer.
