Issue TA00150 | Windows98 | Exception Errors |
Error Message "Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module Apitrap.dll/Kernel32.dll/ at 018f::04B43473" with Symantec CleanSweep or SystemWorks, Windows 95/98/NT4.
Symantec Issue 1998122210321200 - This issue can come up due to an incompatibility between Internet Explorer 5 and the Apitrap.dll file that is installed by Symantec's Norton CleanSweep version 4 program. This program might also be incorporated with Symantec's SystemWorks program
Solution for CleanSweep problem.
Solution #1) download a new version of the file
a) Download the apitrap.dll file from the Symantec site, and on the "SaveAs" Window browse to the desktop folder and save the file there..
b) follow the directions which tell you to...
b1) reboot the computer in MS-DOS mode (Choose Restart in MS-DOS Mode, then click Yes)
b2) At the DOS prompt, type:
CD\WINDOWS\DESKTOP
then press Enter
b3) At the new prompt, type:
COPY APITRAP.DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
and press enter.
Choose Yes if prompted to overwrite an older file
Type EXIT and press Enter to restart into Windows
This process will overwrite the older file with a newer version that does not have the problem.Solution #2) remove CleanSweep
a) Un-install Cleansweep
b) boot computer into safe mode
c) rename file APITRAP.DLL to APITRAP.DL_
